I was wondering if the filter will filter out the fert? Does anyone know? Does it matter the type of filter you use?

    thanks,

As far as I know, there is no need to do so. Infact, I always dose near the out going pipe so as the ferts get evenly distributed with the flow.

There's no need to turn off the filter while you're dosing.

in fact i like it on.
and i always dose in the area right in front of the output
makes me feel more at ease feeling that the output will blow the ferts all over the tank for even distribution

you will only have a problem if you have activated carbon in your filter media as the carbon will probably leech away the trace fertilisers... as there is no need to do so...

I pour my fert mixed with topup water into the Surface skimmer intake. and let the filter distribute it thru the rainbar below.

I don't use any activated carbon as my filter media. I only have plain filter pad and bio balls. Thanks for sharing your expertises.

    Thanks,

there is no right or wrong answer to this.. just do it the most convenient way that you deem suitable for your tank setup.. the only thing you must make sure for planted tank is - no active carbon should be used.. this rule will apply to all setup..

    cheers..
