Hi to all forumners. I'm going to upgrade my tank from a 3x2x2 to a 5x2x2.5.
As its quite a costly investment, I have a few questions for the more experienced guys.

Would 300 watts of metal halide(MH) suffice?

Would a 1.25 Horsepower(HP) chiller be enough to chill the tank down effectively?

Where can I get someone to fabricate a bracket to rest on the side braces of the tank and hang my MH in order to maximise the coverage? And how much would it cost?

Any information would be much appreciated...

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

think it will be very heavy to put your MH light on your tank and it will heat up your tank quite alot.....
i think hanging it, will still be able to give your tank a very good coverage....

I'm aware of the heat thats why I will be getting a chiller. Because MH and chiller go hand in hand...

Yes I've got a good idea on the plants that I want to use. In fact I'm going to get them this week. But the main headache is how to fabricate a bracket for me to rest on the braces and hang my MH from it...

I thought of using T5s but I don't know how much its going to cost and if it can penetrate all the way to the bottom.. Any advice?

Perhaps you should also consider what sort of bracing do you have on your tank before deciding that you want to have brackets on your tank.

Must make sure you're not adding too much extra weight on the glass.

Considered hanging the MH lights from your ceiling? Or maybe fabricating a stand for it? I believe some one in this forum used clothes stand for his/her MH stand. Need to dig up the thread.

Hi bossteck, I saw that thread. It is very innovative. But I think that is for smaller sized tanks. My tank is 5 feet long and 2.5 feet high, plus the cabinet it will be 5 feet tall. I doubt there is such a big clothes stand. Maybe have to change the lights. Do you know how much would it cost if I changed it to t5s?

I got an offer for 8x24 watts T5 for between 300-350... the brand is Dymax. Is it worth it and would it be sufficient for my tank?
