hey does anyone have tips on rearing and even breeding of Dicrossus filamentosus, also known as the checkerboard cichlid?

I just got a pair of them from biotope. I keep them with some green cherry shrimps and 2 Corydoras pygmaeus in a 1ft tank with lots of indian almond leaves and plants. Planning to add in some Boraras maculata too. Is that advisable?

oh. i have one oto too. hehe .. forgot

1ft tank?? bioload is currently max out. Unless you want to keep the boraras with the Dicrossus filamentosus together with the otos will be good. never try to keep shrimp with them.

The Dicrossus filamentosus's eggs are also quite small.

Have listened to the advie of the bros here and moved the 2 cories away. Heard that it is very difficult to breed checkerboards though.

Get a school of them and let them pair up naturally. One of my favourite species, used to keep them in 6 but did not see them pair up. But I had mixed them with some other apisto species too.

If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.

well, i managed to get them to spawn. But the eggs got eaten up. They just need ADA aquasoil, driftwood, most important is the live feed to condition them. My pair spawn immediately the next day after a day of live feed.

Something to add; try to get the most stunning looking male to breed because the female are very visual fish. They choose the more handsome one. i kept a reverse trio in a 2ft.
