driftwood

Hi Guys,

Is it safe to make the driftwood sink using those fishing weights? I think those weights are made of lead. Any ideas if it's toxic if put in a freshwater aquarium?

it should be pretty safe. I've known of a few forum bros who did that too. You can use it to help weigh the driftwood down for the initial part. because as times past, you can remove them as your DW should be able to sink by itself then.
just ensure you clean and soak your DW properly before placing them into your tank

It is not toxic to you. In the long run, though it might not have a big impact on the fish and plants, the lead might do shrimps and other invertebrates harm. Best to remove them after the driftwood sinked.

Although the fishing weights are made of lead, some of the ring hooks attached may rust after prolonged submersion in the water.

Like what Justikanz and kemp mentioned, just remove it after the driftwood sinks
