Saw Thio the other time setting up a small moss tank, so couldn't resist to get a small 6L tank myself . So last Saturday, spent all afternoon at Biotope setting up my tank with the intention of putting some shrimps later. The skin on my fingers were all wrinkled from tying moss to driftwood and all those petite nanas to small rocks. I think it ended up being a bit too much work for a low setup, but all in all it was great fun. Met some fellow AQ forumers too.

Thanks to Thio and Jack for helping me and giving me tips on the scape. Ok, enough talk, where's the picture?? . (Sorry for the low quality pictures ) .

gummynut, i suppose he still needs to cycle his tank first

Hanako - i like the nanas and the DW.
Isit e.t at the back of the DW? personally i would not have them and would prefer to have more nanas instead.

i put 3 malayans yesterday but can't see them. need to cycle the tank properly first before putting more shrimps, and maybe a few fish.

kemp - that's blyxa japonica. if it doesn't work out (since no CO2, and light is not very strong), then i will replace it with more nanas or some undemanding taller stem plants.

hwchony - that's peacock moss. didn't have time to go to Bioplast but maybe this weekend will check the place out.

    any ideas for fishies??

Boraras is a good choice. Next is clown killies (but they like to jump to their deaths! ). Last try can use badis badis (limited to 1 male only since they will fight with each other). BTW, why not all three?!?

You should address Hanako as sister, not brother...

Hanako, try to pull the java fern wood a little more above the substrate... Don't let the substrate fully cover the java fern's rizhome. Same with the nanas.

    Nice meeting you that day!
    Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...

Try E tenellus if the Blyxia japonica doesn't work-out. Tenellus do okay in non CO2 tanks, trim regularly and they give you a thick bush at the back.

Are the java fern tied to any wood? IMO the petite nanas and java ferns look and do better when rise higher above the substrate, use some small rocks and position the petite nanas and java ferns on and between them.

wait a minute guys, this is an 8-inch tank. Even tenellus will take up 1/3 of the tank height and Blyxa will out of the water.

Hi again Justikanz, nice to meet you too and hear about your many many tanks.

Ok, the java ferns are tied to wood and the petite nanas to rocks so will ensure they are not all burrowed inside the soil.

Kemp - the lighting is 9 watts

Fei Miao - yeah, cannot really see the malayans amongst the greenery. If i had moss instead then maybe can spot them more easily.

I had thought about putting in a pair of clown killies and then maybe put some duckweed which i have heard will calm them down and reduce chances of the killies jumping out. Anyways...still looking for the (near) perfect fishies to complement the 6L tank.....

Hi Ms hanako, I can get to see your completed tank finally after talking to you last Saturday. Maybe you can get a moss ball or Micranthemum micranthemoides to replace the Blyxa japonica as background plant. If you intend to put in a moss ball, be sure to keep the temperature low.

hi hi. yes this is the completed tank. sorry was too busy tying the nanas and didn't say goodbye to you .

can i put MM in my tank? if can, that would be very nice. i thought i would need to have CO2 and higher lighting?

Micranthemum micranthemoidesis very easy to grow. It does not need CO2 injection and high lighting.
