I am now cycling my 4ft tank and getting ready to put in the fauna. Current plan is to have CRS and some cardinal tetra + 5 plecos.

Being told by a fellow AQ forumer that the cardinal will eat up the CRS. Is that true? Had kept malayans and yamatos with Cardinals with no problems in the past. If so what fishes are recommended to be kept with the CRS? Will CRS breed if fishes are kept with it?

CRS are very small compared to yamatos, I think it likely that cardinals would eat them, even adult CRS would get picked at by cardinals, I havent mixed them but I would guess they would. Rasbora brigitte and ottos are the only fish I have kept with CRS and they seem safe, don't know about plecos though.

    Totally agree with Sorab.

Even if your CRS did manage to breed, the shrimplets will most likely to become a meal for your cardinals.

I have kept my CRS with boraras and ottos with no problems at all. Although someone did complain about seeing shrimplets picked by them before, it is only in very rare instanaces.

Cardinal Tetras can easily grow up to 1.5" compared to a 1.5-2cm CRS. I only keep Ottos with my CRS and the shrimplets are safe.

Otos are shrimplets safe I believed, cause my breeding crs tank have produced quite a regular frequency of shrimplets.

    Cheers

saw my cardinals eat a medium sized cherry shrimp, my cardinals are a bit big already (almost 2 1/2 years old) , they were not able to eat it in one gulp but they ripped the poor guy apart...

Generally adult cardinals are friendly shoaling fish and should not touch cherry shrimps. There are incidents of cardinals attacking shrimplets though, so there is a risk and expensive meals await if you have crs shrimplets! The percentage of being eaten is reduced if you have lush thickets of plants like moss and Echinodoras tenellus for them to hide in. To me, barbs are a no no.

i guess all sucker-type fishes are harmless ...

Not sure if they suck on (aka eat) the eggs though ?

likewise corys, by the shape of their mouth, dont think they attack/eat shrimps, but not sure about eggs...

My friend has first hand knowledge on Cardinals with CRS... The Cardinals do eat the CRS... Imagine a $1 fish eating a $8 shrimp...

Better to keep CRS by themselves imho...

If you need to add something else with the CRS it should be other shrimp that like soft acidic water (ie. Bee and bumblebee).
