Thanks v31 for the pictures. I am speechless looking at them![]()
The second tank (9th ranking) reminds me of the army days in overseas training.. mountains, rocks, y-junctions and I lost my way.. Speaking about borrowing scene from nature. These people really succeeded.
The altum tank (19th tank) really caught my eyes with the altums' diamond formation. Very straight in line.
The 18th tank is still as amazing as before. We saw it at this link a few months back - http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ght=dream+tank
The 13th tank is simple and no frill- java, glosso and hair grass and yet it brings out the elegance in minimalist fashion.
I beg this year the judges had difficulty in ranking them. All are par excellence.
I guess most of us will get to work on our tanks after seeing all these beautiful tanks.
By the way, once the ADA 2006 contest result book is on sale here, please keep us posted as I can't wait to get a copy of it.

hey guys,
i found it funny looking at the other ranks. it used to be popular, "the path to nowhere" pebbled/sand track. Now, they have "two paths to nowhere look".![]()
I like tank 13 & 18.
I personally like tank 12th (5th pic). Good colour contrast bet flora and fauna and the effect of the elongated vallis.

I got mine yesterday night, wow all the super nice scaping photo...
I think all those use the white sand stand a change in top 50....
The book is here guys!![]()
I've just got mine![]()
Wow! this year's standard is really high. I believe the judges had a hard time. The contest judgment guidelines helps to explain the ranking criteria. But i noticed from some comments that there are some other factors they are looking at that are hard to explain, such as "artistic expression". One of them spoke of "feel" factor. Ms Karen Randall loves the "wow" look.
Further, small detail we never give much thought like the title of the entry is also important. Whether the judges can identify the layout with the title? For an example, the title of the silver prize by Ms Olga of Ukraine was "Rain is coming" and one judge was able to feel that rain was coming in the tank. One of them was surprised to see "Lingering snow" in the Bronze prize Iwagumi tank because he is an experienced skier.
By the way, is the ranked 86 this year the same tank with slight modification as last year's Grand Prize winner?

hey guys,
you recieved in your mail box or did the mail man knock on your door to ask you to sign for it? i checked my mail but no sighting of the book yet.![]()
Got mine in the mail... bent
even though the instructions on the envelope were 'Do Not Bend'.
But still its an eyeful.
Good photography helps alot.
Photography seems to be a criteria for top 100.
Can't see it, can't judge it!
A note in the mail also states for next year's contest they would start charging for the contest book + shipping [due to high cost shipping of overseas entries perhaps?]
IMHO small price to pay for a very nice book!
You can if you dare to fail - Stan Chung
ha,
i found the copy. actually some of the entries are of course regulars to the contest or have joined the year before. but i think my contributing point would be that their hard scape and photography dont seem to change at all!!!
if you see chan de quan last year's grand prize winner, you discern that his rock structures is pretty much still the same...
and if you compare repeated contestants photo with that taken the previous year, you realise that lighting colour all this remain constant. is it possible?
oh yea, i realise their has been on going criticism of the standards for evaluation, especially at another forum which i shall not mention. however if you appreciate the beauty of each entry, you would agree with me that what the top ranked people have achieve is no easy feat. i wouldn't think that even if i have the photo and equipment in front of me, i can replicate the beauty of the tank.
having said that, lets work harded for 2007![]()
I remember reading somewhere in the last few pages of the book that points will be deducted if it is found that participants submit their entries with the same layout previously submitted. But this rule is applicable only to rank "27th" and "higher". At first i had problem with the word "higher". But i think it did not mean "27th - 999th" but "1st-27th". But why stop at 27th?

perhaps it is to give less experienced aquascapers who are less imaginative and adept at growing and trimming plants a fighting chance and also a chance to test their skills in aquascaping by mimicking previous works.
Not many people can come out with the top scapes every year like the pros.
something's wrong here http://www.adaeuro.com/gallery.asp?g_id=10# isn't it?
