Prefer the layout for the left placement first picture, and right placement second picture.
Hope to see the upcoming scape,

IF all plants are low and rocks not totally covered.. i prefer layout2.

the rock most front on the left side is a bit weird..i dont know what it is.. perhaps too straight or too large..dont know.. cant place my finger on it.

Ken, may I suggest you try taking a picture at the level of the ground...
Meaning that if you try to take a picture of your tank so that you can see the surface of the water..

You will notice that the whole scape will look very different from the current perspective... Moreover, will your substrate have hills or flat? Quite different...

Gonna to take it sloww... and easy on this...

It has been sitting like this for almost 2 weeks before I took these shots(shot at eye level, thank you valice), pardon the lousy shots and please ignore the stylofoam at the back(for photo-shooting purpose), this will be removed eventually

bokoblur- the rocks were acquired over a period of time from various LFS, Most LFS such as Wu Hu, C328, NA, Biotope have them. You can also try Mainland which have quite a selection but personally I haven't been there before.

Here's a shot-numbered for easy referral, I shifted rock 3 & 4 further away from the main rock 1 to create a bigger planning area, some hesitant regarding position and choice of rock 4.. would a flatter placement be better?... but decided to leave it, probably it would look better with hairgrass grows out partially hiding it, a flatter placement would be lost in the plants.

I started some planting last night, it's gonna to be strictly HC in the foreground and Hairgrass at the back.

The satay sticks indicate the planting boundaries, something I pick-up from Amano in the new catalogue, it's a good tip, works well.

    Thanks Justin, certainly hope so
I failed with HC before so keeping my fingers crossed this time,

This is how I visualise it... hopefully the HC will flow in the paths I created in the 1 to 5 rocks grouping and in the valley between 2 and 9, any suggestions?

Gonna to be back breaking work tonight and tomorrow planting the rest of the plants, Hats-off to bros with open-scape concepts in 4, 5, & 6 footers.

I am not sure about Iwagumi, but the rock placements look pleasing. Should be nice with the plants grown in. I don't think there's back-breaking planting to do since it is not a big tank, right?

    Good luck!

This is one tank with a HUGE potential...
So you going to cover the "path" which is already there between teh two groups of rocks?

    hi,
I think the rock scape is very well done. The colours are very nice. The substrate seems to be ADA soil? does it give the water an acidic pH? and how long does its effect last? How about the rocks? do they buffer the pH up? ie ++ kH? and sorry for my ignorance, does ADA soil provide longterm root nutrients for your HC and HG, or did you get this substrate purely for its colour...
    thanks

Looks very promising! Awaiting more pictures in eager anticipation.

Please share with us the principles of the satay sticks. How are they used as boundary markers? Thanks!

when you fill your tank half full of water.. your vision tends to be diffracted when you plant dur to light properties and water and all taht jazz... using the stay sticks help you to realise where you had initially intended to plant and do it accurately...so in that case.. they are boundary markers.
