check your water flow, do not hit the windelov with strong water flow. also, cut the old leaves, and be patient.
be careful, if the black spots are on the "below" side of the leaves, they may be sprouts of new plantlets okie.

Hi! All,
My tank is 90g and is about 6 months old Its densely planted. For the past few days I am seeing blackening of the tips of Windelow Java Fern and also black spots on other Java Fern leaves.
I can also see green algae like deposists on the plants having big leaves.
What are the causes of these and how can I tackle them?
Other-wise plants are doing good with pruning required quite regularly.

Thanks Christophe.
I think that should be the issue. As recently, I have installed an additional powerhead to have better circulation of water and the water flow from this hits the windelow directly & also the water flow is quite strong. Is it that windelow doesn't like strong water flow?
And yes, the black spots are not plantlets. The windelow was doing good & its only in the past few weeks that this blackening thing has started. Is it beause of high nitrates?

I think it is because of the strong current hitting the leaves. My turned black when i put a powerhead blowing strong to the leaves a few weeks ago, but when i change the direction, the leaves grew green again, albeit slowly.
I doube checked this issue yesterday. Although the powerhead does move the water a bit but I didn't see the leaves or the branches of the Windelov swaying, thus indicating that the water current is not hitting the Windelov very strongly.

Feed one of the CO2 line into the powerhead intake and see if you get improvement to the Java ferns (do you get loads of pearling towards the end of the day with this method? Wait for 3-4 weeks and see if the plant does well.)
