    Hi,

Just purchased a surface skimmer, "Tom" brand with 02 inlets; 1 in water the other from the surface. Had it connected to my external canister filter.

One problem i realised is, the top inlet that is supposed to SKIM the surface of the oily substance is higher then the water level and thus doesnt really do the job; i think at least.

Can anyone a skimmer advice? Does the top inlet float above the water? The instruction shows the inlet in between the water surface....Please advice.

    Sorry for the long posting.

Initially had wanted to try using one but then it's kind of a bit ugly when put in the tank. Then someone recommended throwing in some platies. Well, it does the job pretty well. My surface oil was completely gone in a couple of days. I got those small red ones about 4 in a 2 ft tank. Guess what, it gave birth to 4 baby platies yesterday

Tried using Platies but to no avail. They just do not touch the surface, infact they do not even clean my leaves etc...rather they are staying happy eating fish food just like my SAE's and Shrimps.

They would actually swim to the surface and help devour the fish food with my fishes...Sigh : (

you have to adjust the suction of the skimmer
there's a rod sticking out from the centre of the skimmer
adjusting the rod such that it sticks out more will increase the suction
    try it out
