i got 3 pcs of T. candidi from Tropical last week. confirmed one of them to be male. the other 2, which i meant to pick females, still can't be confirmed by myself. so asking if anyone here has a pic of female candidi so i can take reference? also anyone with experience breeding them?

off topic... there's also 2 tanks of A. trifascata and A. bitaeniata at tropical too. but appear to be all males to me. has anyone been there recently? can check out if there's any females?

good luck with the apisto hunting, stormhawk. they are selling them at a great price. tell me if you can get females.

kunner, i thought females should stay smaller than males?

Simon, one of the 'females' has a rounded tail like any apisto female. the other one has a tail that's slightly different from the previous female and not exactly like a male's tail too. it's a bit pointed at the edge of the fin but not very much extended. in other words, its caudal fin is not as long as the male's. hope you get what i mean. both are smaller than the male. first 'female' around 3cm, second around 3.5cm and male around 4cm, all including tail.

oqs, i tink the candidis left in tropical all female..

as for tris, dun forget they also have extended dorsal fins, abeit not as high as the males..

not that easy to tell juveniles apart..
for me, i look at the ventral fins and a lemon yellow color to spot females..

    good luck!

stormhawk, thanks for the link. looked at the picture of the female candidi at the website and yeah... looks like the females that i have. seen the male candidi doing some shaking in front one of the female already. hope they will breed.

kenzo, you mean female tris have extended dorsal fins too? didn't know that... thought they look like any other female apisto. and what to look out for in the ventral fins?

oqs, i think kenzo is referring to the trifasciata, if u look closely, males and females all have extension, but if u compare the extension starts from a diff ray(spine) of the dorsal and of coz, the female will have a short extension

Simon, the female tri has dorsal spine extensions starting from which ray? i know i have a confirmed male but i was having a headache choosing a female yesterday. seemed like all males to me. and the bits all look the same. ended up buying a single male tri and a pair of cacas [:0]
