Java Moss becoming brown

Hi! All,

My Java Moss is growing quite well but I am seeing some of the strands of the Java Moss turning brown. What might be the cause of this and how do I rectify it?

i do face the same problem too. Few strains of java moss among those lot turning brown, while the rest and other mosses doing fine.

But why at all such browning will happen & how can it be stopped?

Are the browing area at the bottom of the moss clump? If so, that could only mean you need to trim it short so new shoots will rejuvenate the whole moss clump. The lower part will always turn a bit brownish after some time because it gets less light.
Trimming also helps to keep your moss stick longer to whatever you stick it to.

Another possibility. How long you own that moss? if less than 2-3 weeks before it turns brown means that either your temperature is too high or you bought "fake" terrestrial moss. Terrestrial moss will never survive long time being submersed.

Yeah I guess I will try trimming it & see what's the results. As of now I have never trimmed it. Initially it was there in a glass bowl where it was just surviving. For the past 5 montsh or so I have put it in my 90 g plantedtank (on a driftwood) and its growing like crazy.

The clump of Moss has been there with me for the past 1 year or so.
