my rescape 6 footer

just did a overhaul on my 6 feet tank. changed from sand to ADA soil. put in a BIG driftwood. any ideas on how to decorate the new landscape. just thinking of simple with HC for foreground, middle some hairgrass, rear some crypts. tying some anubias and moss and maybe bolbitis on the driftwood.
thks in advance for all comments. note any idea how long cloudy water will last. have two eheim filters running 24/7.

If If I had a tank like yours, I would go a carpet of E.tenellus, have plenty of crypts around the DW and corner, some anubia around it middle base, then some narrow java plants all over it. If temperature is low, I would include bolbitis on the second piece of wood. This will give me a low maintenance (by that i mean trimming and removing of leaves) tank.

WIth the E.tenellus, anubia and java fern, think you will not even need Co2 if budget is an issue.

Fish wise : Plenty of rasboras (harlequin, espei), plenty of shrimps, a few otos

Ideally should have equipments and plants ready that is plan ahead even the scape. Need to decide which approach you wants a high tech CO2, high maintainace or a low tech non CO2, low maintainace then decide what plants are appropriate.

Cloudy water can be overcome by not stirring the soil and use old water from previous set-up and filter that contain medias like biohome,rings.etc to promotes good benefical bacteria.

If fact your idea is similiar to mine. I have on order some narrow jave fern , anubias nana petite and eyes, boblitis, hairgrass not e. tennelus, and for rear crypts balansae and tonkensis. i understand the crypts are slow growing.
in addition, i have in my holding tanks some 100 or so each species cardinals, rummy nose, lamp eyes and rasboras. my tank hardware one eheim pro 3 and one 2260. running with Teco 20 with built in UV. CO 2 comes with a JBL ph controller and soleniod. my lights are a DIY 6 nos JBL 80W HO T5, these lights comes in 5 feet lenght very bright as bright as my other metal halide combo and running very much cooler. all these are from my tank before this rescape as i was runnning the tank on sand. now trying this tank on ADA soil and ferts. thks for your comments.

hi there everyone out there,
the driftwood needed two person to carry it and lay into the tank. but surprisingly when i fill the tank with water in floated up. so i used some heavy rocks to keep it from floating up. after the fourth day in sank. my tank dimension are 6'0 L x 2.5' W x 2'0 H. still waiting for my plants to arrive . will post pictures of tank after planting.

Currently also re-scape my 6 ft. It is a pain and took me two weeks but stilll not done yet.

Just to ask! what is your method of introducing Co2 to the tank, Is it only via the diffuser? If yes, maybe it will not be enough in such a big tank. I notice from the picture you have 2 diffusers. But I guess you are using Reactor as well.

previously i was using a internal dennerle reactor, now using a lookalike ADA beetle 500 diffussor. pumping co2 to about 40ml/l, during lighting period, lower after lights off. Plants having slight problem, tank water still not too clear. Still having slight cloudy water. plant and driftwood begining to have brown algae. I think I will have to start dosing ferts after the second week. What ferts do you recommend, i was thinking only using ADA brighty K and green brighty. thks for now.

you might go ahead with your ada ferts, but a poor man like me use EI Method (KNO3 and Po4) and supplement with Seachem Flourish and SeaChem Iron. What plants needs in large amount is NPK, and you should supplement that with the micros.

I have not used ADA fert before, so I cannot comment on thier effectiveness.

I guess your cloudy water will go away soon. Either BB or filter-related. Water turning brownish may also be due to the tanin from the DW; you've got a huge piece, and I guess if there is leaching, it will be leaching for about 6 months or so. Be prepared.

Hi there all forumers,
Still having problem with cloudy water, doing weekly water changes. BGA is starting on anubias nana leaves, started dosing ADA ferts, no choice, local fish shops sells only branded ferts like ADA, Sera, Dennerle, JBL. PMDD and Seachem ferts not available here. Maybe this Chrismass go down to Singapore to shop around for plants and ferts. Any recommended shops to get good deals on plants and ferts? Thks.
