    Hi, is substrate heating useful in helping the water circulation below any given substrate? I got 1 for free from a friend giving up the hobby.

    yes. it does help to improve the water circulation.
    however, there are mixed feedback on the benefits of using one.
    but you'll probably need a chiller if you plan to use one.

    Thanks, Thomas. Is it significant having it in the tank? I heard that it is best to connect it to a timer & turn it on & off every alternate hour. Any thoughts, fellow forumer?

    i don't use one so i cannot comment much.
    check around and there are some who swear by it while there are some who did not benefit from it.
    for tropical weather in singapore, you'll most likely need a chiller else the tank water will become too warm.
