very nice fish youve got.

Hello,
some time back, posted about the 'fake altum' which I got. Its very obvious these aren't altums. Even without looking, the price already explains. But I find them quite nice, so wish to share some pics:
may I ask if there is any division into different variants/groups/types for striped scalares? because I would be interested to know the origin of these fish, and if they were wild caught or not.
thanks

Hi Lam,
I would like to share some recently taken pics of my angelfishes as well, hope you don't mind if I post them along in this thread. Since I would like to know more about the question you're asking as well.
Pic 1: I had these for about 1.5 years. Bought them as 'False Altum'. Would like to know their proper scientific name.
Pic 2: The beauty on the top left corner of the pic. Bought this as 'Black Veil Tail'. Same thing like to know proper name.
Pic 3: The white angel. My latest buy, barely 1 week. Took a chance and didn't quarantine them, things looking fine *fingers crossed*. Think the trade name is Sunset Blusher.

you certainly like angels bud.

Hi Mick,
Thanks for the info! Yes, fell in love with them after trying out several other fishes.
They tried to spawn in my tank, but without much success. Been putting off setting up a breeding tank for quite some time. Here're some pics.
First couple seemed to like the filter outlet.
Second couple prefers to lay their eggs on C. Balansae.
Another unsuccessful attempt but the second couple

Hi Bossteck
I am glad to know a fellow angelfish lover
The angels in your 1st picture are commonly known as Silver.
The angel in top left hand corner of your 2nd picture is known as Zebra.
I would say the angel in your 3rd picture is a more appropriately named as sunset angel as the "blushing" on the grill is not very obvious.
Happy rearing angels![]()

Hi Gonjinn (and Mick),
Thanks for the information.
Do you have any good links where we can learn more about the various strains/variants of angelfishes? (This was the original question posted by Lam as well).

Angel Fish Lover,
Gon Jinn
Altum_lover, I have helped you split your enquiry to http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=29636. Will get better exposure.
Hope you find your long nose soon.
Bossteck,
May I know where you bought your 'false altum' from? I have 5 pieces in my tank exactly like yours, bought from one bro on AF site, bred in Singapore. Around nearly 1 year old and look magnificent... just sent two pieces to farm for breeding recently.
Phil
Got mine from Kingfisher (closed down already).
I also had one pair from a hobbyist here, but they are not in the pics above.
Could you tell me abit more about the 'sending to farm for breeding' part? How is this done?
My angels only lay eggs, but they never hatch, probably because I never isolate the parents in a breeding tank. Now they had stopped trying all together.. so sad.

Solid altums, Altumlover.
Bossteck, I bought for $10 some 25-30 pieces about 20cent size from a bro who advertised them as altum x. While I am fairly sure altum x is not possible, i was curious to see how they will turn out. They were the ugliest looking juveniles but somehow grew into magnificent adults much like your ones. Certainly nowhere near an altum but beautiful shape and finnage. I gave some away, traded some for a pair of juvenile discus, possible the worst trade of my life.
Anyway, I kept seven pieces, one of which developed a huge belly, quite egg laden. I had a breeder (also LFS owner) come to my house to pick up some adult angels for breeading and he took two of the seven altum x pieces, including the egg laden one.
So, I guess that's what I mean by "sending to farm for breeding" since this breeder owns a place in Pasir Ris and I will be getting juveniles in return for providing the breeding parents. Possibly a bad trade, I guess, but I am not a commercial breeder myself and shall be content with bringing up babies!![]()
those are not mine. I wish they were though. By the way, when you received of babies, will you mind selling me some?![]()

Can do, no worries. Will let you know when they arrive. Should be at least one month or two yet.
Nothing more pleasurable that bringing up a small group of angels... I am going to do the fengshui thing and start a new tank of nine pieces of angels soon. With a small school of rummynoses!![]()
Hi AngelAddick,
I see, so it is through a personal contact of yours.
All the best in the breeding.
When you get the new batch, please post some pics of them here in AQ![]()
