If the information from Ask Dr. Universe is to be taken literally, the answer seem to be no. New cells are not added, but fibers in the muscle cells are increased in numbers.
It's called the Hayflick Limit and the human limit is around 50. Cancerous cells do not or have worked around this limit and are thus immortal. Interesting read on "Why do we die?" though I haven't managed to make sense of the entire lot.
