hi roy
eerh nope....the wooden cabinet is still cheaper than the stainless steel frame...
I'm planning to set up a 6 ft tank in the near future and would like to know places that I can get 6 ft stainless steel single tier tank stand. A stand similar to those used in Gan is what I'm looking for. I think it should be cheaper than tank cabinet.
Thanks,
Roy

David, thanks for the info. Basic cast iron / metal stands are pretty cheap so figured basic stainless steel ones would cost slightly more.
Thanks,
Roy
actually, david is right.. the stand for a 6footer cost almost the same as a cabinet, reason to that is the size of the SHS (Steel hollow section) used.. they r much bigger to withstand the loading.. the differences shld be a couple of hundreds
In that case you better get cabinet which looks so much nicer. Things can be easily hidden too
Thanks for the info guys! Really didn't expect a 6 ft steel stand to cost so much more. You're right about the aesthetic value of bare metal stands - they look terrible. My initial plan was to use skirting to cover up the steel stand. After reading the info provided by you guys, I'm better off getting a decent looking wooden cabinet.
Thanks,
Roy
alright, any ideas where to get reasonable prices for 6 ft cabinet?

paul, ask ard, some carpenter does cabinet for fish tank
Simon, would the carpenter know the load of a 6 ft fully weighted down tank? That's my concern.
thanks simon, will ask ard ... that will be my project alpha for next year .. heheh

a nice wooden cabinet was quoted by carpenter and LFS owners, abv 1k so well it's worth it.
If you tell the carpenter bout the dia of the tank and such i'm sure they know what to do with it.
Cheers!

there r a couple of methods to reinforced a cabinet, I have seen some lfs using steel frames as the support and the cabinet is builted ard the support and of coz, the all-timber construction.. all up to individual preferences..
if it were me who was buying, i'd get one from bioplast
they make very nice cabinets
but they're not cheap, and they might not have 6ft cabinets in stock too
Most tank suppliers produce standard dimensions. It may not suit to your space allocated in your home. Custom made tank would be your best option if this is the case.
Thanks for the info!
Btw, what would be the ideal canister filter for a 6 ft tank? I'll be using 2 filters instead of one. Ehiem or off-brands like Atman and what not is fine.
Also, planning on MH lights too. How many would I need for demanding plants. I prefer those hanging ones with height adjustment.
I'll be building the 6 ft in stages over a period of few months.
Thanks,
Roy
Roy, good luck. Enjoy yourself.

guys, just wondering...
- a custom-made 6ft wooden cabinet cost more than $1K?
- QianHu's 6ft OceanFree all-glass curved tank set (tank + wooden cabinet + (I think) lights) cost about $1.8K (?) from what I saw during their exhibition at Bugis.
then...
what I'm saying is, won't buying QH's tank set be more economical? this's not a suggestion, but rather a REAL question.
cos there's an "evil" thought on my mind...![]()

Hmm... a real question indeed! Will check out the Ocean Free 6 ft curve tank and cabinet even though I much prefer the conventional straight tank.
Still wondering why aquarium cabinet is so expensive. Extra bracing and reinforcement?
roy, ben/petmart told me this afternoon, 6ft about 1.3K or 1.4K - he's not sure...
