i believe ur light is not enough...36W for 2 ft tank..not very ideal for tonina
Hi all
My tonina does not seem to be doing well. The leaves are shedding and turning a little bit brown. The rest of my plants are doing relatively well with occasional hair algae which i remove manually.
Why is that so?
Tank Specs
1. 2ft tank
2. CO2 at 1bps
3. S7, TR7, Gold Weekly
4. E15, V30 once biweekly alternate
5. Denn Substrate with depotnix base fert
6. Light 36W PL
7. PH 6.2 to 6.5
8. KH 2.5

i'm ADDicted to this wonderful hobby
Have you considered adding some ada soil ?
cheers.
Is it really the light problem? I cannot add ADA soil as there are fishes in there with denn substrate already....
I heard that Tonina survive well in ADA. I also heard that they did well in Lapis as well.... really wierd....
Any other advice?

Is the Tonina shaded in the first place? Which part of the Tonina is browning? Lower portion? I do not use dennerle ferts nor wish to use them since I need to know if my plants are getting the necessary nutrients they need. Our tap is lean in PO4 and if you do not add any, the plant would just slow down its uptake and finally come to a halt if a particular nutrient is missing or worst die off. I'll try adding a tad more CO2 slowly each day (1.1bps and then 1.2bps...not jump straight to 2bps.) till I get a good response from plants (do they pearl more/faster if I add more CO2 or if the fish respond poorly (gasp or act weird.). I think you should try EI rather than the dennerle stuff.

Tonina is not shaded but not directly under the light...

Wasabi8888,
Some good advises on Tonina by lorba and the guys.

I think it's better you address your lighting problem first.
The leaves nodes are far apart, indicating no enough light.
Your plant will shoot up real fast, reaching for the lights and the bottom start to rot.

Hi wasabi,
One item in your Dennerle lineup is missing A1- the daily dose fert. That one should be the potassium supplement.

HI bro , i think 36watts for your 2ft maybe not enough for your Tonina...i am using 36watts*2 for my 2ft...temp. hovers around 27-28 degress with 1 profantec fan 24/7...i am using ADA Amazonia soil n it is growing very well..fertilzer include Dr. Mallicks Lushgro n Micros...KNO3 N PO4...some of my Tonina are floating are also o.k...i think they need low ph n strong lights![]()

interesting... was thought that A1 was not necessary.... anyone using that?
