    HI jade,
Its now in the Vieja classification. Therefore, should be Vieja Argentea. Use search engines with this name and u can find many sites on it. Interested to get some?
    Cheers![]

Try doing a search on The Cichlid Room Companion

btw, you have another thread "Geo Liquid for African cichlids", in which you typed the same thing... =)

    Cichlid classification is constantly changing.

Regan proposed Cichlasoma further classified into 5 sections in the 1900s.
Miller classfied again in 1966 (i think) the genuses amphilophus, archocentrus, herichthys, theraps etc . 7 of them.

up till today, still constantly changing. Eg Parapetenia changed to Nandopsis.

classifications and re-classficiations happen at a very fast rate.

But i always have a question : must we always follow new classifications whenever it is proposed or published?
Is it the opinion and finding of a few or even just one person rather than with exhuastive and all rounded scientific proof, that a particualr fish should indeed be re-classfied?

What i know is very limited, but i do have doubts when fish are re-classfied, issit due to real biological difference or just isolated cases like adaptions to a certain locality... ?

many ppl like to showcase their knowledge by being very up to date with such changes. But personally, i still adopt a wait and see attitude.
but it is true that in this case, as said by Stinger, vieja is already been established as an independent genus. But i cannot say the same for all cases.

IMO, some older genus should still stand, while new ones debated. You can still search for most species with genus cichlasoma, and herichthys.

Refresh our notebooks, but open our eyes too.

    Great fish...

    Quite rare in the US.

I only know of 2 people that sell them!

Go great in a CA/SA community tank of 100+ gallons.
    My fish passions:
    -African cichlids (especially Malawi)
    -Catfish
    -Red snook (petenia splendida)

I got mine from Luo Foxwell another CA/SA dealer.

The only other seller I know is Jeff Rapps.

    Great guy.

I can't wait to meet him next July in Ohio at the ACA convention.

Cichlidae Medalodon ~ I think I've seen ya around AC before. You saw the ACA convention pix Mojo posted in the cichlid forum? Awesome. And there's a pic of Jeff Rapps, the man himself. Boy, wish I was there.
