    Hi all bros,

Just curious, are apistos loyal like pengiuns? Meaning once their pair up and has spawn before, will they pair with others if you split them?

Read that male apistogramma mate with several females within their super territory in the wild. Not too sure if you can replicate that in captive environment.

I used to keep 2 female A.cacatuoides to a male in a 3 footer, but the male only mate with one of the female and chases the other away when in sight.

Apisto are harem brooders thus one male will mate with more then 1 female.

Used to do a 1:3 male : female ratio in a 6 footer.
    Cheers!

    Hi Thanks..

How about 1 female with few males? Or if a pair has spawned before and successful hatching of eggs and along the ways, the male up the lorry, will the female mate with another male?

Be prepared for losses if you have many males to a female.

Oh, sorry for not being clear. What I meant is if a female has spawned with a male and if I removed the male and introduced another male, will the female spawned with the new male?

    My Experiences

Hi All. Some apistos are haram spawners ie A.cacatuoides, A.agassizii etc and some are predomanantly monogamas like A.panduro , A.nijssenii, A.pertensis etc and there is one i have been trying to get, to no avail, that is a reverse haram spawner, where the female gathers a haram of males ie A.spsmarged or emerald, i believe.

You just have to do research to see which are and are not. I have found that when a pair is broken up they usually do pair off with another that is available if they are compatable to each other. I have found some of my females are picky about their mates and it takes a while to get them to pair up again. The best way I found is to get both really conditioned to breed before introducing and it seems to shorten courting.
