Hi guys... Im a newbie in planted tanks... However... My plants are growing pretty well under my care...

I have a 2ft x 1 ft x 1ft tank with one metal halide and two fans. Im experiencing 27.C temperature.. i would like to lower the temp with the use of a chiller as i feel it can also up the asthetics of the tank outlook.. Not that messy that way.. I need your advice on where to get a cheap chiller for this setup. Hope the chiller can handle a bigger tank as well cos i see myself urgrading to a larger tank in the future.. thanks for the advice guys....

for a 2 ft tank, you may want to consider using a fan.
fan is quite effect for such small tank.

a fan may be effective.. however.. the water seems to evaporate to fast.. to fast for my liking.. and the overall look of the tank is not so pleasing..

Will there be any difference of having 27C compare to 25C to the plants or fishs? I know that some have shrimps tank kept at 24C, which makes sense to have a chiller as the temperature difference is huge.
    Cheers,

Wow, using MH lights on a 2ft tank and able to maintain at temp of 27C is very impressive. I used to use 3 fans on my 2ft tank with PL lights and the temp never falls below 28C unless it is a real cool day. Right now, I have switched to using T5 lights with a chiller and set the temp between 25C and 27C. Right now, at least the condition of my plants, mainly crypts and moss, have improved a lot.

It is not the temperature that caused your plants to improve... It is the better light intensity from T5 that caused it.

I have a tank with T5 and temperature at 28, plants are exploding... And just 1 fan...

In addion, 3 fans wouldn't bring down the water temperature lower than the ambient temperature... It merely speeds up evaporation rate and letting you attain ambient temperature faster... Only a chiller can bring temperature lower than that of the surrounding...

Oh, I wasn't providing the full details as I was basically stating that with one fan able to lower to 27C is very impressive to me. I got the chiller about 5 month before changing the 3X36W Pl lights to a 3X24W T5HO lights. The condition of the plants had already improved during this period. But with better lighting, it just gets better.

Not saying that you are wrong, just stating on what I had experience. Maybe there are other factors that come into play but I am not aware of.

I have no idea why my tanks are so warm, without fans, they get to around 31C. This is happening right now even with my 2 small endler's tanks sharing one reading PL lamp (ikea type) placed about 1ft above the tank. With a fan blowing currently, I am able to lower to around 29C. Temperatures were taken with different thermometers and they all register high.

Other than lights, one thing many people forget is the pump. Especially internal filters and pump. They can give out plenty of heat and warm up your water. Try to get a low wattage pump if you can go with the reduced flow rate..
