Yes. Do keep in mind that they've should be kept in clear water for a day to allow them to deficate (shit). That way you don't have to clean the damn things. Now, here's how to prepare them:
Take the crayfish out of the pail/container/trap
Either slam it onto the ground as hard as possible to kill it
OR
If you're the squeamish type, put it in the fridge/ice water. They go to sleep after a few mins
Now that it's dead or hibernating, turn it upside down and cut it in half lengthwise. This destroys the brain if it's hibernating. Next, generously butter the fleshy part. Add whatever else if you're in the mood
Now, throw them onto the fire SHELL SIDE DOWN. This protects the meat from getting burnt. Remember to keep buttering as it cooks. After the shell turns red the crayfish is cooked. Eat the tail section. What's in the "head" area is organs like the stomach and intestines. Not very tasty.
Enjoy! And remember not to throw the shells back in the water!
I propose the next AQ outing be a fishing/BBQ session. And Thomas! we shouldn't release non-natives into singapore's waters even if they're the same species! Remeber the genes!
Is it legal to catch non native animals from the reservoir? Couple of sundays back I saw a whole bunch of people squatting by the side of upper pierce reservoir with nets, dangling bait among the rocks. Presumably to catch yabbies?
I believe there are legal sites at resevoirs where one can drop a line. Though if you're going for yabbies, a trap would be MUCH more effective. Shall do a tutorial one day...
Actually bedok resevoir is infested with the tasty critters... That and... perhaps we should start another thread. Mods?

Lol, the idea is to kill the animal before cooking it. Leaving it alive would be MORE sadistic
yeah, I saw an episode on Japan hour many years ago, a woman was barbequeing a lobster live on the grill, it was alive and crawling around. Fell off the grill, she giggled and put it back again on the grill. Repeated the process till it got red and she is still giggling. Once it was cooked, she proceeded to eat the 'HALF-DEAD' lobster and still giggling. It was the second most sickest thing I have seen done to an animal, I will spare you the first.

I had lobster in Hong Kong half dead but it was chopped up already. Eyes still moving and all
Hence the need to halve it lengthwise. It's tiny brain will be destroyed by the knife. No pain. Also, they taste better if they aren't stressed before they die. Every animal releases toxins and acids during periods of stress. Like humans. Which is where the cold water comes in, sleeping crayfish are relaxed.
so make them into drunken yabbies, they die happy, sure taste
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

I have gone to Bedok Reservoir, but I don't know how to fish for crayfish. Can anyone help? Do note that I don't intend to eat them but to catch, take a photo and let them go.
Interestingly, on my last trip to Bedok Reservoir I spotted;
a 2 ft arowana in the waters
a 1 ft pleco
numerous terrapins
and some unknown large fish - shaped like flowerhorn / luohan
There's an example of a simple and extremely effective trap. Just toss in a little food and a rock to weigh it down.
That's it? A tad small, eh? Where do I put the trap in? Erm, which spots? Near the boating area?
I know it seems dumb, but what kind of food, too?
How long does it take to catch one?
Must I go at night or afternoon, or it doesnt matter?
Place the trap amongst rocks, that's where crays hide
Any kind of food with losts of MSG, i use saussages and nuggets since it's always during a BBQ. I think hikari algae wafers smell pretty strong too.
fastest it took me as 10 seconds, trap hit the water and the little guy shot right out of the rock and went at the bait. leave it there for an hour or so.
Crays are nocturnal, you're better off cray-fishing in the late evening or early morning
I thought fishing at certain reserviors are legal, but on the premise that only artificial baits are used?
