Hi guys..I recently setup a planted 2ft tank without doing much research and I setted it up using an undergravel filter. I read from this forum that most plants don't do well with UGF so I think it might be better if I change my setup to ohf instead.

But if I do change to OHF, do I need to take the UGF all out? I'm only keeping guppies in my tank so far.

Attached is a small picture of my current 2ft tank.

maybe you could consider getting canister filter instead?

I think you need not, just do not operate the UGF as in, do not use the airpump for it and leave the plates underneath there as it is right now.

If you're injecting CO2, a OHF or a HOB filter is not recommended because it causes surface agitation of the water and results in CO2 loss.

hi kemp..I think long term getting a canister filter will be a good idea. I don't want to invest too much at the present moment but what would you recommend for a canister filter for a 2ft tank? thanks

hi squee, so no problem with leaving the underplate as it's rite? at least I don't have to redo my tank..heheh.

The only CO2 i'm using now is in tablet form. Reason using that becos half of my plant that I first planted rot on me. So i thought it might be due to lack of CO2.

So you recommend me getting a canister filter too yes..instead of a OHF? what's a HOB?

If it is a couple of weeks old, might as well redo it.

Given the plants you have in your tank, the undergravel filter shouldn't pose a problem even if you on them...
Also you can stop your CO2 tablet since what I see in your tank is mainly Hygrophila...

Try Ehiem 2213 perhaps, or a similar flowrate model.

    BTW, welcome to AQ

Thanks for the welcome squee. Just found out that one of my female guppy got white spot on her fin this morning. Took her out of the main tank immediately and hoping the my plants and the rest of the guppies is ok.

no need to remove the UGF but just remember u have it there and do not accidentally turn it on or disturb it unnecessarily or you will have a lot of trapped debris floating around..
