That's the typical behaviour of a clown loach and some other types of loaches as well.
I have a clown loach that seems to enjoy sleeping on it's side. Initially I thought it was dead or dying, but it has been doing this for several months already. Whenever I approach it, it would "spring" back to life with full vitality.
Puzzling huh?

Yup. They certainly do 'play dead' and scare their owners.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
I've read that clown loaches also make 'clicking' sound. Anyone heard of this because mine don't, at least not when i'm asleep. Anyone can confirm if they do eat small shrimps?

Yes, clown loaches will hunt down shrimps and small fishes. Adult (greater than 5") breeding clown loaches have even been reported to actively hunt mid-water swimming fishes...
