Very nice tank for a low tech! Can't you do without the dosing?

Think for low-tech tank, it is very important to have at least a good base fert or substrate... If only pure lapis, think the plants will still suffer since very minimal water column dosing...

    What you guys think?

The ADA soil definately helps... the crypts especailly love it.. after the intial melt phase... if you leave them alone in the ADA soil.. they take off quite well..

The other plants also benefit.. i really like ADA for low tech tanks.

ahh, ic. Think i saw it at Bioplast too quite sometime back.
So you've tried it in a low tech tank and it grew quite well?

So its been around 3 months and i decided to take more pictures of the tank...
I've decided to change something and re-grow some others...
Let me know what you guys think..

Just experimenting with different fish positions... which do you like best?

The corner flashing spot is on purpose... i thought it rather looked like the morning sun... so i liked it..
Still i think i should work harder the next time i take photos... these are a little on the dark side for my tastes..
    I'm beginning to love this low-tech tank..kekeke

Sad thing is tomorrow i'm tearing it down and rebuilding it up again in the new ADA "60cm Clear" tank.

Looks real nice. Its really a pity that you have to tear it down soon.
Seems like the pleco really likes the position on the front glass

haha.. yeah no choice la.. he likes to be there when the other fishes in good position.. what to do... And its not a pleco... some weird paro-otocinclus i bought from Japan, does quite well with clearing up algae.

Today i build a new tank!! yay!!

That is for sure especially he has quite a number of rooted plants. I think the key here is the ADA soil, which is fired clay. Clay naturally has high CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) which is not only good at locking nutirents from the water column and slowly release it back to the water column, but also has nutrients-packed to begin with.

where else lapis is just inert matter. Matured tank is a good start for a lowtech setup, as the fish mulm collected over the years are slowly processed into valuable nutrients for plants.

Another key would be a healthy gang of yamatos, otos and saes. These will keep algae on check. And obviously also a good healthy plant mass. Lastly will be a good filtration and water circulation.

    Hi Ranma,
The second shot is nice. The white colour balance is a yellow? The paper bg should be flat to avoid the crumpled look. Suggest moving the tank and flash away frmo the wall and covering the flash with a something like tissue/thin white plastic.

Wynx - what do you want to know about them?? Its just a regualr chiller...but its titanium core i think. You set the temperature you want the tank to be at and its just fluctuates 0.5 degrees between that. Available in singapore.

Stan - I don't know about the colour balance because when i took the picture it was green.. but i tried to colour balance it by myself... still i do know its a bit off. Also i took the 2nd picture and smoothed out the back already in photoshop... i was just too lazy to do it in real life.. too much effort required..hahaha.. The flash on the wall thing is done deliberately as i wanted to give the tank a dawn feel, like as if the sun was rising where the flash hit the wall, and i did already cover the flashes with a white plastic/tissue/paper sheet as i knew that trick too... i would have liked it to be a little brighter though

    Ooops! Good trick!

I normally poke a hole in the tissue to get a 'sunspot.'

Ok let me try to 5 minute photoshop ha...!

Warmed the scene. RAW would have given a bit more latitude with the colours.

I see what you mean. The photo compression does make the picture somewhat duller.

And photo compression also makes the picture "softer". Not sure why is that the case.

Stan that picture is a little too green.. thats what it looked like when i took the picture.. honestly, the back ground was very very light blue... let me see if i can fix it...

Anyway.. still haven't destroyed this tank... i just seem to enjoy it more now that it has matured... its a bit of a pity to tear it down.. but it will be done.
Spent most of today planning what i want/can do with the ADA tank because i am limited to these plants. I would have prefered to have smaller leafed plants for a 60cm... but since i'm going low-tech... its a bit harder. All the plants in this tank are rather larged leafed... still.. i've got one idea down.. tomorrow i'm going to check hardscape.

The more i look at your tank the more i like it too.
What are those red plants in front of the clump of crypts.
