what type of lights shld i get for a 30cm(B)X60cm(L)X30cm(H) planted tank?

if you want to keep demanding plants (e.g. riccia, glosso, all red plants), you need at least 60W of light. Best would be those light fixtures with two 36W PL tubes (available at NA NAture Aquarium at THomson Rd for $90). If you are planning a lower maintenance tank with slower growing plants, the common fixtures from most LFS with two normal flourescent tubes are ok.
Definitely those PL lights. Better than FL, by the way PL are those 'U' shaped tubes, the FLs are the common 'lightsaber' kinds. I hope I didn't get the terms mixed up.
By the way, as rummynose experimented in a thread a little earlier, you might try laying them across rather than lengthwise along your tank as most conventional methods.

Hi, why are PLs better than FLs? if the absolute wattage is the same, is there any other advantage to PLs? cheaper, more lasting etc? I got PLs for my tank but always wonder if maybe I should have gotten FLs instead and use those Accadia brand FL tubes....----------------

one common argument for PLs is that you can fit more watts into a given space as the size is smaller
my experience with PLs is they act as a point source
you WILL need more of them to cover the same areas, but the light will be stronger
wow the lights are expensive.. are there other cheaper alternatives?
