I'm doing DIY external CO2 reactor, the one with PVC and bio balls. I'm using epoxy (brand: Araldite) to glue them together except the balls of course. The question is does this glue poisonous to the tank occupant. If it does, any way to remove it? Thanks in advance.

I believe certain chemical are toxic to fishes. For example, some silicone is explicitly advised against aquarium application. Whilst the effect is not immediate, over an extended period, flora and fauna will be affected.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I wonder if I cover the epoxy with thin layer of aquarium graded silicone will help to prevent toxic leak?

    Hi,

Last time when the tank maker came and set up the pipings for my sump tank, he used normal PVC glue (those that comes in a metal can, with attached brush, the glue is red in color - not sure if this is epoxy), which I think is the same which the aircon men used for my aircon water pipes. On- off I do have fishes that die in my tank, but I doubt it is due to poisoning though, else the same batch of fishes would probably die at about the same time right?

My personal take is, since the glue/epoxy is going to be applied in the area outside the pipe where the end cap will be fitted to and not inside the pvc pipe, whatever adhesive you use shouldn't contact the water (since this is an external diffuser), hence even if it is not aquarium safe, there shouldn't be any problems.
