What does it indicate when i have brown & green spot algae in the reactor itself? I have some green spot algae on the surface of the tank, which I have to scrub everyweek or 2. However, I never have the brown stuff in my tank except in the reactor. Please help. Thanks.
    Cheers,

Green spot algae is normal, but the brown one... do you have sunlight hitting that reactor in the mornings?

Anyway an easy way to clean is to dump it in a container with bleach and water. Rinse after 15 minutes and soak in the same container but this time with water and overdosed anti chlorine (use cheap ones like Genesis). Wash and if there's no chlorine smell left, use in tank.

Any brown stuff in your tank is finished off by your algae crew (otocinclus etc.). But those little critters will not be able to swim into your reactor and clean those in it.
