i just filled my tank with water and added in Stress Coat water condition. now im letting everything run.
i have yet to add in prawns to kick start the cycling process.

the pH shown on my pH alert reader is 8.2 - 8.6.. that is quite high.. how do i lower it? or will it goes down gradually??

i just have some doubts and questions... pls bear me

when is the right time to add in those commercial bottled bacteria??

when must add in seachem STABILITY?

when must add in API Stress Zyme?

should i add in those prawns now to let it rot and give out ammonia??

Is this a planted tank? If so, just add a lot of plants, and add in the products you want. No need prawns for cycling if your plant mass is good from the start (more than 50% of the tank).

do you have any substrate for this tank? some subtrate such as ada aquasoil will cause a lower pH when it's new.
How long have u been cycling your tank?
What's the size of your tank? What type of filter are you using?

yes im using sand and those white coarse gravel substrate.

i just filled my tank with water today and running everything in the same day also.

im using a OHF with 4 trays... first layer cotton/filter mat, second layer is ceramic rings.

    my tank is a 3ft

If you wanna add bacteria.. add bacteria from the start..it will build up slowly.

No need for stability and stress zyme.. singapore water when aged is very friendly for fish.

Also.. as for you ph.. it depends what kind of fish you are keeping.. some like the higher ph..

ADA soil does not cause a HIGHER ph.. it does cause a LOWER ph..

Something that might cause higher ph is the filter media.. i know that certain porus kind of ceramic rings can cause and increase from 1-2ph of water...for example.. Mr. aqua is one of them

yar im using Mr Aqua CRs'

wow!! an increase in 1 - 2 pH of water??!! does that mean if the pH is 7.. and increase of 1-2 will be up to 8+ ?!

but the problem is i have no market prawns in my refrigerator right now so i can't start the cycling process.

no harm letting the tank and equipment running now right since im getting the prawns tomorrow morning

bro, you're right. It supposedly to be acidic, so ya, it will lower the pH. Thanks for pointing that out

White coarse gravel... hmm, any chance you're using coral sand?
What's the ph of your tap water? Measure that first, then you'll know if the high PH was caused by the water source or by something you have added.

Sorry if I sound like a noob, why do you want to add market prawn from the fridge into your tank to cycle it?

adding prawns into tank water to let it decompose so it will give out ammonia for the bacteria to feed

won't it foul up the water and invite some sort of creepies into the tank as well? Decaying matters will invite creepies like Hydra etc right?
