To rear shrimps with only moss, fan but no filter at all. Is it really possible cos I thinking of setting up a 1.5ft tank with shrimps, fan & moss only.

How many shrimps are you looking at? In my opinion, filterless should be possible if you keep the number of shrimps low. In a 1.5ft tank, maybe 4-6 pieces. This is just a guess.

    not a problem ... 9 to 10????? ... thats too low ... pump that number to 40-50
as long as lots of plants and moss, not a problem at all

yes it is possible without filter, I did that with my 1ft shrimp tank. One of my colleaque even have CRS and Chery in her office tank without filter and fan, only ambient light and lots of moss. Both CRS and Chery breed like crazy, make me jelous because mine is not

I was though CRS is sensitive shrimps?

I have two tanks (20cm x 10cm x 12cm) in my office without filter (just lots of moss) and I've successfully breed Tiger and CRS shrimps.

I was at the LFS at Marine Parade & I've seen a Nano Tank with at least 50 crs!!! But the LFS was running a nano canister filter on it, so with a 1.5 ft tank I think with alot of Moss it would be able to support quite a lot of crs even without a filter...

Just do water change regularly to prevent the Nitrates from accumulating...

And of course at least a fan running 24/7 to bring down the temp...

my filter was choked and my 2ft tank was without air for 2 days. my shrimps all survived. i think reason was because my riccia always bubbles when it photosynthesis. so if you don't intend to have filter, you should fill your tank with lots of plants
