i did a rescape about a month ago. bought a new driftwood which covers half my 2ft tank. The problem now is since the day i introduce the driftwood, the A.cacatuoides pairs have been hiding behind it (because its like cave like at the back where they can swim in below the driftwood) whenever the light is on. Only when the light is off can i see them swim out. My orange A.cacatuoides have spawn twice and the babies growing up well on another tank. i plan to buy cardinals to place with them, will that do any good? why such behavior? i am puzzled. hope to get some answers and advice from here i took a picture of them when the light is off. Thanks for reading. Good day!

I would not consider cardinals in a breeding tank!! They will probably feed on your fries...you can try pencil fish or some boraras? do a search on this topics...

    Thank you Cacatuoides,
i have a feeling that they wont breed anymore because the female not as yellow as before. i have indeed bought 3 cardinals just to try out but when i got back home today two already died. the tank have 1 SAE (which the male always chase), and 2 otos (whom might have sign a peace treaty with the A.cacatuoides because near get chase by him). i am feeling bored staring at an empty tank with only the otos and sae running free while they hide behind. i still love them but now starting to get bored with the couple... the male hide, the female also follow suit. what should i do?...

Maybe you want to remove the driftwood (DW) and set the tank back to the orginal condition (ie without dw)?

Since they bred before, they must be rather happy. Why did you change the scape in the first place?

Yea, I agree with Jeffery....sometimes a change of hardscape will get them going again, surely they'll breed again if you change one variable factor?
