    Hi

After moving from NUS to my new place in Sengkang, I have decided to setup my new tanks again. Among my tanks which include a crytocoryne tank, a moss tank with shrimps, a goldfish tank, a turtle tank and a planted fish tank, I am going to show my planted fish tank.

The title of the theme is "La Javanaise". This is the title of a song of a french artist. It simply means in the songs that you will fall in love in the course of listening to the song. So I am using the title to mean falling in love while you watch this tank.

I got this tank from a bro from arofanatic recently. Stand has been purchased as part of a set from another bro from arofanatic.

Size: 4 feet by 1.5 feet wide by 2 feet high.

    Filter: Eheim 2026

    Lights: 1 set of 3 feet 2*36watts PL (7000K)
Yea this is a non-co2 tank. My lights is quite limited for now, so is my $$

    Plant:
    Java ferns (various types),
    Java moss,
E.tenellus. (there are quite long since they were deprived of lights and grew upwards. I guess they will not stay any shorter in my tank since it is as well lights limited)
Substrate: Lapis sand only (2 pack of 20+kgs)

They were from my previous setups that I have not been able to sell. In the last month or 2, there were grown non-Co2. Some minor bba is present on a few leaves, i guess this was during the conversion.

Fishes: Still deciding, please help me. Currently I have my rasboras (espei and harlequin) and a few boraras, 1 or 2 SAEs, 1 or 2 ottos. NOt sure how many survive my house shifting. Some jump from the quarantine tank where I am currently hosting them.

I am thinking of going with a few angel fish, mixed with discus fishes, and a school of rummy nose. However, this means I have to forgo my rasboras and I will not be able to add shrimps. So I am still deciding.

    Here are the pictures.

Any comments are welcome. I have not yet added any fishes yet. Still deciding which ones to add after the cycle period.

    Cheers
    Christophe

Nice! Imho I'd add a huge bunch of Cyperus helferi at the centre of the tank to "embrace" the whole layout.

It has just been setup today - Day 1 Just mentioning to keep track

To squee: I;ve read the plant need high lights. Also where to put? In front of the wood in the center or behind, or around the center wood. I take it as you mean plant it around the center wood in the background such that it grows to join the left and right piece and have a dense effect. Will this not then limit my choice of fishes , say if i decide to go for angel or discus. Sorry, I have not used that plant before, so I am not sure how it will turn out. More info will help if you can.

Overall, I really intend to keep it as low tech as possible. First, because hehe now after 4.5 years, I will be paying my own water bills. And, I will be working in about 6 months, and will be overseas as well for 2 months as from mid of July.

somehow... i just feel like the tank looks really small... perhaps the leafage of the plants are a little huge or too compacting..

I think it is also because of the tall and spare E.tenellus.

I'm just suggesting, I myself do not have much experience with that plant. I only know that it has a long acclimatisation period, longer than crypts. It is also very easily uprooted.

    Hi,

I thought this might has something to do with a javanese biotope (as the title suggest)

With that much moss you are using, it is advisable to avoid using any SAE.
They will eat out your moss and leave behind a trail of bald plants.

I find Cyperus helferi a darn difficult plant... You can try Cryptocoryne balansae...

As for fish... You might want to try some danios and the Microrasbora 'Galaxy'...
    Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii

haha, rasboras galaxy is out of my option for the moment... heheh $$$

Yea yea, I will try balansea, a bit $$ but i think it is a worthy plants once it is nicely grown at the back...where to put, center, left, right?

can danios stay together with various types of rasboras (espei, hengi, harlequin) and shrimps (cherry, malayan and yamato)? because they are bigger in size right...

I will trim the moss in the center wood a bit, then will post an updated picture. If i manage to sell my MH lights+light stand, I will get a set of T5 to go on the tank (4*54), then hopefully my E.tenellus will grow out nicely to form a carpet faster.

    I understand...

Danios are big... But you can always look for the smaller ones, like the zebra danios... Though I admit they are increasingly difficult to find... Danios would do great with rasboras...

The C.balansae can go to the center or side depending on what you wantt o create... They might melt initially, but will grow back strong... So, decide on the final look and plant it and leave it alone.

prices have plunged recently at some shops... as usual...

problem with M. sp 'Galaxy' is that they don't school.. So will be all over the tank once they are accustomed to your tank...

hmm, no thks, i do not think i am going for galaxy... too colorful for my liking... I will stick to rasboras harlequin, espei, hengi or boraras maculatus.. or any 'natural' color fishes. I am not for cardinals or neons anymore. Haha, i find red and blue not so natural (personal preference).

How about Ember tetras? I have a small school of about 6 or 8 and they always keep together, even when there isn't any fish bigger than them in there.

Cover the base with a black cloth or something along that line, makes the setup look more part of the house than an equipment.

Haha, haha, yes sir. In fact, I am looking for some plastic board, then will attach some magnet to it. Then will fix (via magnet) to the stand. and will paste those adhesive furniture foil to give it a cabinet look. Looking for either teak or mahogany color.

I just need to stop looking at my tank some time and go shopping for the things.

Hi Christopher, maybe you would like to consider Microrasbora erythromicron instead of M.galaxy ? I've seen them around in clementi polyart, retailing same price as galaxy.
