what filter do you have? I usually turn the valve before opening the filter. Most canister filter have valve. If not you can buy seperate valve from eheim or other brand at any LFS

    Hi,

Your valve should work like a tap, just switch off the filter, turn both valves (I suppose you have 1 for the inlet, 1 for the outlet) to 'off' position, then remove the pipes from your canister filter.

I usually also place the entire cannister filter inside a bucket before unscrewing the pipes from the filter housing.

You don't need to stop pipe from syphoning once you turn both valve inlet and outlet to off position. Your filter do have valve at inlet and outlet right?

If you have a valve the water should not back flow but if you really have a problem the most obvious is to remove the outlet from the water... But should have thought of that unless something is preventing you from doing so...

    Problem Settles

Hi. guys thanks for the replies. I have managed to settle the problem. My tubing was too long. I shorten it and it is better now.
