What does the leaves from a stem plant:
    1) melt from the top of stem, and
    2) shed from the bottom of stem
indicates ? And what is needed to remedy(eg. trimming or what other measures need to take note)? Just like to hear from everyone's points of view.

Same here... just setup a new tank. Transfered some of the plants, which were triving previously in my old tank, starts to melt too.
One thing i notice is that the KH seems to be very low at 1 or less initially. Compared to my old tank of Kh 8.

Adding more bicorbonate of soda to bring up the Kh to 3 now. (target Since CO2 content in water is a factor of both PH and KH, I hope that that would make the plants happier. Happy new year !

    Zhan:

    Is it a new plant?
Does the problem occur to all the stem plants?
    What plants are affected?

My best guess is most likely new plant? If so, let it float on the water for a week or so to let it adjust to tank water before planting it.

    mjck:
Hmm..dying leaves refers to leaves dropped off or leaves turning yellowish cum melting ?

    juggler:
It happens to my micranthemum umbrosum(my only stem plants). Have been introduced into my tank for the past one week.

Poor NO3/CO2. Since it's a fast grower, you would need to make sure the nutrients do not run low.

Hi Peter, I'll try to up my NO3/CO2. Meanwhile, what should I do with the current situation ? Leave them as they are and wait for the melting leaves to shed away and regrow ?

Uproot, trim the bottom portion and replant. If the top portion is puny and crumpled then trim if off as well since the tissue is dead.
