Thanks for the pm and reply.Still open to options.
If you are going to view the tanks from both sides(eg. The tank as a partition) or you are going stick in the styrofoam background then you can do away with oyama paper. Unless you'd like a nice view of the wall behind it, along with the filter pipes, wires, dried up lizard etc. Go for 10-12mm glass with black silicon(Clear ones get stained after awhile).
hi bryan.thanks.I be placing the tank with a wall behind it, not as a partition.I guess a blackbackground would be better right.
tropic,
The cabinet can be order from many carpenters. I got mine done at one of those furniture maker at Eunos/Ang Mo Kio as I need mine slightly higher. It's the tank specification that you should be more concerned about.
For the glass, most of the tank makers use float glass, which is of a higher quality. Float glass is available from many source, but a lot of tank makers claims that they are using Asahi float glass.
As for the color of the glass, it depends on your specification too. Most glass comes with a green tint. If you are ok with that then there is no issue. Frankly, most of us cannot see the color tint from the front. Only visible from the side. But if you must have clear glass, starphire or mineral glass will be a better option. They cost several times more than regular float glass. Take note.
Then, there is the thickness of the glass. If you are looking at a frameless/braceless 4 ft tank (Zen/ADA style), you will need thicker glass. If you have brace, then a 8 mm thickness will more than suffice.
As for Oyama paper, it all depends on the color of your wall. If it's peach/red/orange color, it might make your aquascape looks weird. Hence a lot of folks use background paper to 'solve' this problem.
Hope the above helps.
Cheers,
P.S. I've changed the title to better reflect the content.
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
hi benny.May i know roughly whats the price like for the cabinet that you had customised?
The one that I did was higher version of the 3 panel, and includes 3 additional drawers. The center panel was further sub-divided into 3 shelves. The left and right panel was open at the back for easier filtration connection. Wood construction with wood grain Formica laminate and rounded corners.
If I recall correctly, it was about S$680. But I can't remember the name of the company. The name of the chap was called Ah Choon.
