Just a guess.. but trying searching for Lobelia cardinalis. Lead is a nono. But someone probably forgot to tell the shopkeeper.
I was sold a plant under this name. It appears very hearty and it is bright purple underneath bright green leaves. It has a lead weight that I believe is ok for the tank. First of all, what is the latin name, if anyone is familiar, and why would a lead weight be allowed in a fishtank. Don't they leech metal into the water?

Hemigraphus colorata. Live and learn. Not a true aquatic. Color will fade.
Oh well, better do my homework before I spend my cash. $8 bucks for a lesson.![]()
I see. Ya, it's not aquatic. and worse, not even a marsh plant. You could try growing it in soil indoors (by a sunlitted window) though as a houseplant.
a good reference would be the plant list at www.tropica.com where bona fide aquatics (mostly) are listed.
From the plant farms and LFS point of view, it's a easy way to weigh down plants for sale.
Rockwool in a plastic tub should be more expensive if I'm not wrong.
Bottom line, don't leave the lead weight in your tank. Tie or fasten with fishing line or a rubber band to a small rock?
