    Nice...

Is there a 'pond' I see in the middle of the tank? Therefore partially submersing the substrate.

How thick is the substrate? Seems like about an inch or 2 from the pic.

Laterly, how do you keep the substrate, though seperated by rock, from spilling back into the 'pond' and reclaiming it in the end?

Of course, if my eyes are playing tricks on me.... it might not even be a pond. hahaha

I do wanted a tank with a 'natural pond' but failed due to the above problems. In the end, I used a shallow plastic container (those used for packing food) and used lapis to cover the surrounding area.

By the time I managed to fill the lapis to the brim of the container, its about 3inch think. Which isn't much of a problem. But the water tends to get dirty extremely easily. The Lapis got into the 'pond' due to the movement from fauna, adding more headache

In the end, I surrendered after a tedious month and merely added a drinking bowl on top of the lapis.

    Very very very very nice!
    Will you be planting more?
Then like a mini rain forest?

Very impressive looking setup!! Love the 'pond' in the middle too.

Care to show some close up of the scape as well?

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Thanks

Yap.. that's a mini pond in the middle.. It's roughly about 2 inch and it's separated by the rocks to hold them in place although there is still some uncovered small gaps. The water actually cover the whole tank area.. just that it's still below the sand.

The pond lead to the bottom of the rock structure at the corner. It acts as a filtration to prevent water foul and also as a mini waterfall.. Will try to get some close up picture later.. hehe

Perharps you might want to give it a try also using rocks or slate?? It should help solve the problem.

Now is thinking... what can i put in the pond.. Guppy or Betta hahaha
    Any suggestions??

Hmm.. don't think so... hahaha.. still want to be able to see my froggies and maybe fishes in the "pond"

Wah! There's also a mini waterfall!

It gets better... Couldn't wait for your more detailed pics.

With regards to what species of fish, I would really advise you to consider those used for feeding arowana. Frogs by nature are carnivorous and the fish you place in there would form a part of their diet....

hahaha.... actually don't know can call waterfall or not.. cause the water flow very slow I think it's flowing at a rate of 400 to 500 litre per hour. Can't seem to take a good pic on it.

Oh.. Heng (lucky) i ask ah.. if not wait fish disappear also don't know why.. okok.. roger that liao.. hehe.. i think will go for those red swordtail instead hehehe Thanks

Love your new setup. The perfect fish for that little pond you have would be a Killi. You should try it.

Happy Camper, thanks... It will sure look nice if killi are placed in the pond. But i was told that green tree frog are carnivorous & i'm afraid it might end up in the froggies stomach. hee

destination33, your tank seems to be in some restaurant or bar!
I think I see a beer tap... Mind to disclose where we can patronise to admire the tank?

Hahahaha.... it's actually one of our tank display at our bar cafe. Just converted from a cichild community tank to a vivarium. So posted to let the experts comment on the new setup.

Sure.. But is it ok for me to post here?

No issues to post the details here. Maybe we can do a gathering there even!!

If I recall correctly, it was posted earlier when you guys took over the management from the previous owners. Location is at Thomson Road and parking is quite a killer the last time I was there.

    Cheers,

Nice use of a 5ft tank!! hmmm... tempting... since my 4ft is undergoing rescape and is currently empty....

As for improvements... Well, if there is any way possible...
Perhaps a few well placed pieces of driftwood (DW) with some moss or the "vine" kind of thing that Phillipe used (at the recent Vivarium workshop) would be nice... what say the others?

Hehe....starting a vivarium really gets more tempting.. Now even thinking of doing a smaller one to house land hermit crab

Okie.. point noted. Will see what i can do to improve on that

First of all, WOAH!! By far the best setup i've seen. Why didn't you use a mini basin and then plant it into the ground with the substrate (like ponds) and then put rocks round it? Would be easier to maintain the amount of water in there.

Actually it's ok for the water. Cause it's meant for the plants. The plants we got can be partially submerge. So far they are growing pretty well as far as i can see

Oh.. I thought you would have to sprinkle water in every now and then for the frogs and the plants
