Hi,
Look likely both are males to me. If not, the one in front is a female. Somehow, they still look like males to me. Let see what others think.

My greatest interest in fish hobby is to breed them.
Both are male.

Welcome to AQ, duby!
I agree with sheng, both pieces are male specimens of Apistogramma agassizii.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Good reference picture you have there sheng..
duby, in case you are wondering, the identification traits of an A.agassizii is in the first pair of fishes in the figure provided by sheng...
The spear-shaped caudal fins (the tail fin) and the long dorsal finnages are clear dimorphism of an A.agassizii, where only the males have these characteristics.
thank you guys very much for your help...it is most appreciated...my lfs assured me that they gave me a male and female. shows how much they know...
oh, another nearly sure way to distinguishing a male from a female is the black ventral (or anal) fins you see in sheng's picture of a female...
Think all female apistogrammas have that black marking... Males of most species don't carry the marking...
unfortunately they wouldn't exchange. they would give me store credit if i brought back both fish. but i think ill just keep them both for now.
bro,
Confirm both are males... The female are normally much smaller & less nicer looking ones...
