Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean. You love snails, but when the snail takes over your tank, they are bad news?

It is very easy to breed snails... so long as your water quality is good, and there are no predators, they will breed. I have a lot of ramhorns if you want them to start breeding.

    Hi pogo714,

    Welcome to Aquatic Quotient!

Are you from the United States? Are snails difficult to find there that you have to consider breeding your own?

So far, ramshorn snails in our tanks pretty much breed by themselves without any interference. Malayan trumpet snails too, but they are a pest.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi Steven,

Water temperature should be between 25 to 31 degrees celcius. More importantly, you need good clean water. If you have a dedicated 5 gallon tank for your snails, they should be fine and will lay eggs everywhere. What kind of plants and wood do you have for them?

Also, what kind of filtration are you using?

    Cheers,

    Hi Steven

I think you will have better luck with the folks at www.aquaticplantcentral.com if you want to get snails. Most of them are from USA whilst the bulk of us here are actually from Asia. Singapore to be more specific.

    Hi Steven,

    Welcome to AQ!

I agree with Benny. So long as your water is clean and the temperature is warm enough (at least 25 degrees celcius) they will breed. But as snails are difficult to sex, it is best to add a few of the same species into the tank if you want to breed them. Apple snails lay their eggs above water, so have a few driftwood sticking out of the water. Try to make sure that there is no cold draft above the water surface so that the temperature does not drop too low.

Ramhorns lay their eggs under water on water plants, so there is no problem.

Feed the snails with water weed grown in the tank or with zucchini (sp?) slices, making sure you peel off the skin to remove any possible pesticide traces.

No, I don't sell the snails... I have been giving them away free. But sending to Kentucky may be a little tricky

Well, i know this thread is a bit old, but for those who still looking at it, i m updating few info here.

I from Penang island, Malaysia. I got two apple snails (yellow gold color). I started with size of 3 cm and now 6 cm. I have them in my 2 feet tank, just two of them. Its very hard to get any snails form here! Just I m lucky to get two.

Currently, they just lay eggs, above water level. This is my first time.
