for the benefits of others interested in photographing their fishes.
genes shot this using a Canon S2IS at 1/10s shutterspeed, without flash. For those who want to try with their DSLR, you will find it rather frustrating because it is very difficult to get sharp image on a DSLR at 1/10s shutterspeed, using hand holding. This has to do with the actual optical focal length of the lenses.
Thought I should say this before some people knock themselves out trying![]()
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Exactly...especially when your object is consistantly moving.Took this picture using hand holding the camera. Not something you will want to do everyday... Tripod is still the way to go... hehe

not really, if fishes that does not stay still you cannot use a tripod. what I am trying to say is that you can get away with 1/10s on a digicam, but you cannot do it on a DSLR.

I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding. But when i take pictures of my fishes, i had to hold the camera still at a point till the fish sort of stays still for awhile before i take shots.
And at the point of snapping, hold my breadth to prevent big movement of the camera, sounds like range huh? "Firers watch you front..." hehehe

Even for DSLR users, we also use that sniper technique... Especially at low shutter speed...
just wondering is possible to take such nice photos with digital camera?
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
Yupz... Like discussed in previous threads, aquatic photography's worst enemy is getting enough lights into the tank...
Once that is solved, even a camera phone can take nice photos...
Nice picture Bro...!
He looks really stable... how long have you had him?
I too have one but don't know whether it is due to the environment like black backing and black water that's why his body is dark coloured...
Anyone has any idea?

Dark coloured body means he is having some problems...
The water colour in fact will bring his natural colour out as that is his natural environment...
Sometimes its due to stress as well.. what other fishes do you have in the tank?
I am into Plecos now...
L46, L173, L134 & L236

Raised him up since he was a fry. What do you feed him? The water and black background certaintly will not make your cacatuoides look black. Most likely he is stressed out. Feed him well.
