Well... i just finished watching a documentary about this fish dude here in japan...okayama or something like that..this place is about 3 hours from kyushu.. so its pretty south..BUT!!
The interesting thing is that he has managed to find what the important chemicals are that affect fish osmosis in different water salinity. The TV programme showed that there are 3 major chemicals involved and they are..
1. sodium
2. potassium
3. mystery chemical which they cannot tell.
This "new water" that is made does not taste salty.. and in the programme.. The professor managed to raise fish in this water for consumption in a period of 3 months. The new water promotes "healthier fishes", faster growth rates, and allows both fresh water and salt water fish to co-habit in the same space.. hence saving space.
It was so weird when they show a tank full of angel fishes, sea breams, Ranchu Goldfishes and clownfishes all swimming together and all seemingly very healthy...
Let see if we hear more about it in the future..or if someone can find something on the net about this in english would be great..Any comments or thoughts??

Uncle choy... no chemical in water doesn't mean no osmosis..
Osmosis depends on concentration ..so as long as one body has chemicals...like in the fish's body.. then it will happen.

Interested to know more about this too. Hehe. Have always been thinking of putting marine fish in non salt water, then don't have to afraid of rusting. So cool!
