I saw some ANTI ALGAE treatment at some LFS. Was wondering if they are used to get rid of algae or to prevent algae for new start up? Or maybe to prevent algae occurence from a tank that have got rid of algae.
    don't worry, be happy

    Another closer look

    Hair algae right?

Overall tank about 3 months old, compare to the first picture above
That's BGA on your riccia & hair algae in your moss. You don't need to pour any food in during the blackout period. Your fauna will be able to survive. Just make sure you do a major clean up prior to the blackout and don't peek during the blackout period. Siphon out as much of the BGA you can.

As for your moss, hair algae is easy to remove but always comes back after a day or two. So just remove what you can manually and siphon out all that dirt on the moss as well.

    Hi all,

After 3days of blackout, the BGA all gone BUT, my ET and glosso also most turning yellow or brown should I remove them or leave it there for them to grow again?

    thanks

Trim off the dead/dying leaves... they should bounce back if your nutrients are good.

While you're at it, loosen up your sand substrate with some gravel vacuuming. Compacted sand restricts flow in the sand. This usually leads to dead substrate.
If you have anything vibrating nearby, it's best not to have it near tank or on tank stand. This quickens compacting.

Good to hear that the BGA has been eradicated.

Now what you will need to do is to keep a look out, if possible eye-ball the condition of your tank in the weeks to come.

The glosso and ET will bounce back, do some trimmings and all will be good.
