Hi guys, any idea how I can help to stop the rams (think is 3 male unfortunately) from pestering each other in a 2 feet community tank with lots of plants other than taking one or two out of the tank? (No additional tank to spare already)[] The current occupants with the rams are neon tetras and corys. Thanks for any suggestions and help given. [:]

    Hello
Try getting some drift or bogwood that is real thick and chunky...pile up on top of each other..try this all over the tank and also plant real heavily..
This should alter the line of sight for the fishes and should break down aggression slightly.

I have a 2-ft with 3 rams: 1 male & 2 females. Initially, the male will fight with one of the females. Then, the combinations will switch... male vs female1... female1 vs female2... male vs female2. After a while, I got used to it and let them be, since they did not do much harm to each other.

However, on a long term, I guess it is not so good for the fish longevity. Because this actually cause much stress in the rams. In nature, they can probably leave the area if they losses a fight, but in the tank they can't.

BTW, my male ram occasionally will harass the corys and SAEs. But very mild compared to when they fight each other.

Are they getting into long extended fights where one or two of them are quite battered and often chased relentlessly? If its just facing off with little actual contact, they should be fine.

If you really need/want to reduce the agression, do like Mez said, break the line of sight. They literally cannot stand the sight of each other. If your tank has one open area, they will try to dominate it. This is hard to do though as its going to alter your tank layout.

In cases like this, more is better. A 3(or more)-way fight will prevent one from being bullied constantly. Its 1 on 1 (or 2 on 1), then the weaker will be bullied til death.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

all cichlids requires an area/terrority.. though dwarf cichlid the area is much smaller, some takes up as much as 30cm in diameter.. so its always best to give them alot of hiding places or thick vegetation. but if the tank is small then some of them will guard the entire length of the tank

Cardinal Tetra..make sure the water in the tank is clean and do more small water changes to speed up recovery. Try not to add medication to the tank as rams do not like it. Most of all, monitor them closely to make sure they are not biting at each other or attack by other fishes in your tank. Good luck! [:]

Well, basically i leave to Nature to take care of itself. So far 1 of the Ram have back off and gone into "seclusion". The pairs(male and female) are actually hitting it off pretty well.
