    Hi,

Is it necessary to grease the impeller?

Will the grease affect the water/fish?

    Please advise..

    Cheers

the impeller in the canister filter?
no need to as the ceramic spindle is smooth and offers little resistance.
and water is a lubricant too.

yup, the impeller in the canister filter.. I bought a second hand canister recently, the ex-owner told me he had applied some eheim grease on the impeller..

So, just checking with with u guys whether this will cause any harm to the fishes..

If it's Eheim grease it's meant for the aquarium and therefore shouldn't affect

The Eheim grease is actually just vaseline.

There's a spray on lubricant used by Qian Hu when servicing Ehiem parts... I think it is silicone based if I didn't remember wrongly... That will be inert...

Generally speaking (even for steel shafts): no. Gunk from the tank will take care of that after a few weeks of running time anyway (you will notice the impeller running more silent over time).
