Hi Harsh,
The photo is not very clear. looks like BGA with a lot of detritus. Does it smell like rotten eggs?

You can if you dare to fail - Stan Chung
Hi Stan,
Thanks for the quick reply, but i am sorry i have never smelled rotten eggs so i can't compare, but when i was doing a water change and the riccia got out of the water, the smell was a bit foul, but i would not call it rotten foul.
and according to my very limited knowledge, BGA + detritus is the best guess.. any suggestions to get rid of these?
I always use Siamese Algae Eater, Chinese Algae eater and Yamato shrimps as workers in all my tanks. It works so far with very little algae prom. You can give this critters a try. My tanks swear by it.![]()
It looks to me like normal moss covered with dirt, like in my neglected non-CO2 tanks. Fluffing them up to release the dirt into surrounding waters solved the problem.
Yup, covered with lots of dirt. Fluff it up or siphon close to the moss. As for the riccia, it looks like hair algae bundled with dirt (and then again on the wood that its tied to, looks like BGA).
If you can pick up that green stuff up and take a sniff and it smells like ammonia, it could be BGA.

Looks like a dirty tank to me. Are you using a filter?
yeah, a 2217 and an internal powerhead. Maybe i should upgrade to a 2028 proII at least.
Try doing a manual clean up first. Stir up that muck in the moss and clean it.
