i made the mistake of rinsing my ada soil and then now the water is clouded. allowed the powdered soil to settle before putting fishes in. however, currently the soil does not seem to be able to settle down anymore and i had not been able to get clear water for my tank despite waiting for weeks.
Welll, then we can only say best thing is to wait given the mistake as, ADA is simply soil... But maybe Shadow can advice you on the time frame that you will be looking at for the soil to settle, as he made the same mistake when he pre-washed his ADA soil...
Since most of the soil has already settled, the blurry water you are having is probably caused by the minute soil particles. These will take a long time to settle.
If you have not started planting, how about getting a large plastic sheet (can use those which we use to wrap our textbooks), place it lying on your substrate. Siphon out the water. With the sheet still on your substrate, gentlely and carefully add fresh water into your tank.
You may also want to switch to finer filter wool for the time being to speed up the process.

the thing is even when this minute particles settle, they will float up again once the fishes dig in it or swims pass. is it okay to just empty the tank and then do it all over again? wont the soil rush up as it does now?
Drain the tank as much as you can, fill it up again and drain it again. Do it a couple of times until the water draining off is clear.
Leave the Aquasoil as untouched as possible. I hope you haven't damaged it that much, because ruined Aquasoil is great ground for BGA growth and the soil compacting won't be good for plants.
okay i've got a qn, will it be bad if i were to filter out all the tiny particles that are clouding my water? cause they do settle down but they also rise up again easily clouding the water again.
btw my particles are the powderish type

You can do that too, but I don't know how you're going to ensure that the particles don't settle down and get filtered out.
I also rinse my ADA soils and for my case it took 2 days for the particle to settle down, you can see the soil on the plant leaf. Did your filter running? do you use filter wool as your media? filter wools helps alot. By the way I didn't do any water change even though my pH crass to 4.7it come back up again after a month, now settle at 6

They best thing is to postphone ptting in any digging fishes after you've cleared up the water as per either bosstek or terence's suggestions.
Cories caused my tank to be cloudy for months till i was told by a friend that they were the culprit.
After the tank is mature and the plants grown in, then you can add the cories.

Riltz, how big is the tank? If it is a 2ft or 3ft, I would sugest you to re-do. Since you've been waiting for weeks for the soil to settle.

its a 2 ft. redo?sigh. maybe i try taking out the cory see how! haha
yes. take out the cory, otto, any digging fishes at the moment. imo, u definitely need good filtration to get rid of all those particles. if not, likely they will re-appear once you introduce those cories, etc into your tank again.

OH MY GOD!! I went to mess up the whole tank last night. Stirred up the soil particles till it became mud bath. And this morning its clear already!
Okay another question if i'm not going to plant anything in the tank, will the ADA soil hold itself? Or is there a need to have a planted tank?

ADA is specially design for planted tank, so it kind of waste if you don't use it.
you see currently i dun have any plants yet. and it'll be quite ex to buy them. just bought a pair a apisto you see so now quite broke. and i'm like a student waiting for results! so really no money.
The soil will hold itself, don't worry. My only concern is that the Aquasoil will compact into a clay-like substance and create anaerobic areas in itself. That will be bad for fish and plants, do a search on why.
What species of apisto did you buy? Are they already acclimatised into the tank? Do you have driftwood inside for them as hiding places and aesthetic improvements?
The next time you get your "pay packet", go down to one of the commonly mentioned LFSes in this forum and get some plants. You'll be looking for starter plants first like Java fern. Java fern is relatively cheap, can be tied onto driftwood, and buying about $20 worth of them will help your tank mature faster, your apistos will love the environment and your eyes will love the greenery too. Furthermore Java fern doesn't need a lot of light and CO2 fertilisation to look good.
same here problem here.. still can't get clear water.. still got some dust flying around the tank despite numerous water changes made..
u have the same problem as my bro..
what he did was to put in some plants and remain untouched for 1 week b4 changing half of the water then using siphoning to replace new water inside the tank.. but it still remain cloudy but better than the 1st week.. 3 days later, he put tiger and bee shrimps inside as he getting out of patience.. the tiger and bee shrimps survived until now with no death.. amazing!!!
sometime, some bro offer foc plants, you can start from that. Also some LFS selling 3 potted plant only for $2.
so,can start introducing the shrimp,despite the cloudy water?
