Hi, thinking of getting like 10 rummynose tetras for my tank. Heard there are two (or three?) types
The real rummynoses are more sensitive to water conditions? And the false ones are a little hardier?
Anyway which LFS sells the hardier one?
Anyone knows why type Gan is selling? What about Petmart? Ben? etc.

petitella georgiae, false rummynose. should be the commonest.
hemigrammus rhodostomus, rummynose tetra, quite uncommon.
hemigrammus bleheri, bleher's rummynose. not sure about this species but it's supposedly more common than the true rummynose.
anyway u can get them quite cheaply. around 1.20 per fish at most LFS

the false rummynose has a faded red color on the nose. likening more to slightly purplish but very faded red.

Hey! ever wondered if you have all 3 types of Rummynoses in the same tank, they'll still school together and can can't tell each other apart? y'know, like some times Chinese, Japs, Koreans, Hawaiian, or any other yellow skin dark hair types get mistaken for each other...[]

They should school together.
I once saw a cardinal schooling with the rummy noses at Gan's. But OTOH ... maybe just a case of identity crisis.

tetra do great in large numbers and sometimes, they will have ID criss, I have a lonely black neon schooling with my golden tetra and they dun seem to mind...
yeah, leonghui, those rummy noses at tb were really good. they started schooling with my black neons, once they got home!

i got some rummynose from Ben/TB at 60c/pc recently.
ordered separately in bags of larger quantity.
not sure what's the minimum quantity for this price.
fishes packed in farms are generally healthier than
those that have been released into the LFS display tank.
