vicker03, I have split your questions on the fading of white bands here, so as to generate better responses.

VV nice...
I am thinking of doing a similar setup at home for CRS... can you advise on what brands of chillers would be recommended for a 1 to 1.5ft tank and the potential increase in electrical bills?
Thanks...

You might want to consider ice probe since yours is smaller than 2ft. There is also DIY version.
There's a discussion over here http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ighlight=probe And if you're considering this, someone's selling his at the moment.
Thanks for complement. I'm using Teco TR10. There's a discussion over here http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=29355

it must be so nice to see CRS breedactually i dont see that you use ada soil ? so how did you manage to maintain the low PH required for CRS breeding ?what is your PH value or simply chiller is enough?

I'm not using, but gonna reset my tank with used ADA soil soon. I'm using CO2 to lower to pH6.4. All along I've set my pH ranging from 6.4 to 6.6. So not sure if a pH7 will the crs breed for you.

u You buy used ADA soil ? i am thinking of the same too, an expert advise me to use africanna ada rather than amazonia ada due to a lower ammonia content. please share your experience here. Thanks !![]()

now this is my humble 1st time CRS ! no ADA, no chiller LOL![]()

I've yet to find used ADA soil. Still searching. Not too sure about africana versus amazonia. But if you were to use used ADA soil, then the ammonia content will not be much of an issue. But however, i would go for amazonia because they're black or dark brown whereas africana if i'm not wrong is light brownish. Well right now i'm using lapis sand which is brown biege colour, going to switch to amazonia black for more contrast. Depends on individual preferences. Some of the bros ask me why restart when my tank is in good condition. cause i find the contrast not striking when i saw people using ADA soil or Dennerle quartz gravel. Go for the soil you think best suits you.
Strangely enough, people are asking me about ADA soil when I'm a non user if you were to read my earlier post. Just that I've been researching on it. So my advice may not be right. These are just my views. Well sometimes you must experiment. Like much earlier on people are saying that dosing of fertilizers will kill crs but I'm dosing fertilizers till today and all's well.

Any idea how long ADA soil will last in a tank retaining its low pH properties?
Lets says 1-1.5cm soil thickness in tank.

Clueless man. But I've started a thread with regards to ADA soil over here.http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...257#post248257

Few months ago when preparing for ADA. But now as you all could see the ferns are overwhelming. So gonna setup a new tank soon. It's gonna be much simpler and low maintainence. Probably this tank will go through intensive trimmings and then house fishes. Luckily kept the photos. My very first aquascaping attempt for ADA competition.

yeah i did a bit of rescape to my tank as well.... after experiencing what you gone thru through. Easy maintenance is the KEY![]()

Actually my selection of plants are slow growing and low maintainence. But look how my ferns grew in less then six months.
