    Hi bro skysky

Congrats on your success on the tank setup!

May I know how long you take to cycle the tank before introducing the shrimps?

    Thanks to advise.

hmm...which one ? the grey one ? there are about 4 types of stone there..
The grey one are the slate stone...u tile them up and will create a lot of gaps for the shrimp to hide.

I took about 3weeks. lost a few shrimp at first and eventually heed the expert advice here to patiently wait for the tank to complete cycle.

Hi PLee, you found the rock ? i bought 4 of them and is using one of them now. I intro 9 CRS late last week. Some update of the pics.

This is the rock i am talking about

    My Cherry shrimps

Love the reddness of this cherry. she just gave birth...surprisingly the shrimplet is light red in colour at birth. unlike the other shrimplets are always transparent at birth.

NA=Nature Aquarium (opp Thomson Medical Center). If you pop by, do take a look at the other smaller LFS beside it. Have got very good collection of plants.

Thanks for your compliment, but really this is a my 1st trial on a planted tank. objective is super low maintainance. Thus no CO2, no Ada, no chiller. So is a simple setup. i only top up water and maybe once every month i will change 10%-15% water

I didnt intentionally lower the PH as you can see no CO2, no ADA..cant really lower PH LOL. last check show PH=7.2. but CRS still doing ok. I think CRS can tolerate this range but just cant breed in it. However, i am ok with it, as my intention is too enjoy looking at them not really into breeding, although the cherries are breeding well.

Oh, yr your cherries are breeding is it? I see, hows the prices at NA like, cheap or not?

Yeah, surprised that you got no CO2, no Ada, and chiller and yr CRS are still doing okay, that will be a good thing for me to know as i'm low on budget like you too... Anyway, how much is yr your setup?

What temperature are you keeping the CRS? My tank is fan cooled. I guess CRS wont breed in anything more than 28 degrees.

hi could you please give some details as to how you keep your tank low maintenance? i have a friend who is a total newbie to aquatic pets of all kinds, but wants to keep crs with as low maintenance as possible...i'm clueless as to shrimp so dunno how to advice him. your setup seems perfect for him =)

go to the LFS next door of NA, call colourful aquarium to buy cherry. Very stable and good Cherry. try to buy when the stock comes in the same day. then usually the quality is very high.

Haha i am surprise myself, so far CRS colour did not run off. maybe the time is too short to tell. Really have to monitor longer to say for sure. But there again, my CRS is grade C so maybe they are less sensitive compare to the good grade. For those bro seriously into CRS, is only logical to spur on the setup as the shrimp themselves are so expensive.

My setup is rather economical , the rough estimate is
    1) 2 ft tank= $25 ( brought from yahoo auction)
    2) a medium size hang on filter = $20
    3) plants and moss = $20
    4) quartz substrate =$8
    5) some stones = $8

I will be adding some more tiger shrimps next week

My tank is about 27-29degree. Yup you are right, i knew from day 1, CRS will not breed. but i am contented just looking at them. i wanted a low maintanance tank, so is anticipated that there will be some drawback. but it serves my purpose well.

oh gosh, on CRS...you really should consult the rest of the expert here. i am a newbie in CRS. Actually if you friend is gonna to house the CRS in a air con room say office. i think he won half the battle already.

For my case, my setup was initially to breed cherries which is relatively low maintainance. When the tank is stable ( because cherries starts to breed in it), i brought some CRS and introduce into tank with proper acclimatization. so far they looks fine. colour also still there
