    Hi guys,
is it really necessary for apisto to stay in blackwater condtion?
was surfing the net and found that quite a number of apisto are kept in water that are brown

Do i dose more of the blackwater solution into my tank to make it look brown so that it will be more conducive?

    please advise

    thank you

    yours sincerely,
    Storm

The water don't need to be black, but the conditions of soft and acidic is needed. Some farmbred species are more tolerant to neutral water conditions. But wild ones will need the soft and slightly acidic conditions.

    Hi stormydax;

It is not necessary that your apisto tank to be in a blackwater state...
Most Apisto can live comfortabily in a Tank of Ph 6 or 7.You will like to have a clear view of the Apisto that you are keeping rite???

But in the other case when you wanted to breed them in the later state,it will be more ideal to have the ph to be below 6 and having very soft water...
Maybe you will like to refer to Romer's cichlid Atlas for more referance...

    Just my 2 cents worth

    use ADA AquaSoil.

Belive there are 3 types but all are suitable as they bring down the PH to as low as 4 depending one the proportion of water and soil

    There's Africana, Amazonia and Malayan

The most commonly used are the first 2...different people have reported different results using the 2 types...

Personally, Africana has given me the lowest ph compared to Amazonia

    hi,
by adding the blackwater chemical, will it only soften the water or will the ph go down with it also?

if i put too much, will the water be too soft such that it is not good for the apisto or is it a case of the softer the water, the better

    thank you

    yours sincerely,
    Storm

It depends on which species of apisto you're keeping, some wild caught species require lower ph while some others are fine with neutral water....

Also depends on the source of your fish too....
